There are numerous Private Foundations that offer scholarships and grants to single moms. The financial help is based on need, merit, intent to study specific professions or specialties. There are also scholarships specifically dedicated to single moms.
However, many of the Private Foundation Financial Aid programs have very specific requirements. Some are faith based, others are dedicated to supporting formerly battered women, or dedicated to non traditional students, older than 25, who have difficult time finding scholarships, etc.
The process is similar to the one for Corporate Financial Aid. After deciding on a school and program, and noting the application deadline. Applications for some Financial Aid can be submitted throughout the year. Still, most scholarships and grants have a deadline; make a note of it. Read the requirements for each scholarship or grant, and prepare the list of those, for which you might qualify.
Do not forget the essay. Take the time to write thoughtful essay; you need to convince the Foundation that you are worthy of financial aid.
Prepare and submit the applications in time. Confirm that your applications have been received. Follow up, check the status of each application.
As soon as you receive the notification that you have been awarded a scholarship or grant, you know that it is time to apply for financial aid for the following year. Most financial aid covers one school year.
