Academic Excellence – An Advantage for Moms Going Back to Work

Moms looking to get back to work will mostly find that the good jobs require them to study further. This is not to say that there are no jobs that they can do without further study, but yes the better paying jobs are definitely for those who have academic excellence to show in their resume.

Let’s understand what role academic degrees play in the career path of a mom looking to go back to a job:

Better job options- The first and foremost advantage of academic degrees is better job options. Most mothers find that when they set foot on a career path after motherhood, they are stuck in a rut of a particular type of job. The income here is not too high and the jobs have little room for progress. After studying further new avenues open up. White collar jobs that have immense room for progress and are high paying jobs too, suddenly become available after earning academic degrees. So initially with a high school degree if your options were limited to a secretarial job, after a college degree you will be able to move up to others like financial management, bank jobs and much more.

Stronger hold on job- Not only is academic excellence known to allow you a better range of jobs but also helps in retaining them. The lessons learnt during the study are extremely beneficial and help to get a better hold on the tasks that the job demands. In most cases a financial expert will be able to manage a high pressure share market job much better than a person who barely finished schooling. There is no denying the fact that a degree does allow you to do your job better as opposed to someone who has not studied in that particular line. Indeed this also translates to better job satisfaction.

Faster progress – Once you are armed with a degree, chances of promotions are much better for you. This is the reason why hotel management graduates progress much faster as opposed to those who join a hotel without such a degree. Management students will also progress way beyond the executive level within a few years, while those who became executives right after high school find that their progress is much slower.

There is no denying the advantages of academic excellence. Of course this is not to say that practical knowledge does not hold any ground. But yes! When looking for a successful career it is important to pursue a serious line of study in that arena. As a mom when you are looking to get back to a career, it is best to pick on one that will have a long term value for you.

Pursuing higher studies so as to be able to perform better and rise rapidly in your job is any day a better option than picking a job that is low paying and dead end, even if it means that you need not study further for such a job.
